Wildland Firefighting

Wildland firefighters are fire suppression members who work outdoors, experiencing the natural environment under hostile and heated conditions.  Firefighters must have extreme physical abilities as job requirements mandate strenuous hiking in all terrains while carrying heavy backpacks, power saws and hand tools throughout rural areas.  Exposure to heat, smoke, heavy equipment, and steep terrain are common.  Trail maintenance, fire preparedness and prescribed burning are performed as a daily duty when wild fires are not burning.
