Ventura County Lifeguard 1

Lifeguards are one of the most recognized figures in ocean safety.  They have the difficult task of watching over large numbers of people spread over wide stretches of beaches and are the first responders to many beach emergencies.  Their duties consist of beach patrol, operating and maintaining life-saving equipment, vehicles and facilities, advising the public of and enforcing beach regulations and performing lifeguard services

Lifeguards must have a working knowledge of lifesaving techniques, first aid and water safety.  They must possess the ability to identify safe and unsafe surfing and swimming conditions and effectively communicate such conditions to others.  Lifeguards must be willing to perform difficult rescues in adverse waters, while dealing tactfully and respectively with members of the public and other responding agencies.
